10 Fall Trends to Watch in 2022

Fall has arrived and ecstatic fashion fans have likely noticed that in addition to the usual trends that often cycle through this time of year (think: ankle boots, plaid shirts, and bold accessories), there’s a seemingly endless amount of other trends that are also noteworthy for the season ahead. Breathe new life into your fall wardrobe by playing with these top 10 trends.

The Blazer

A high-quality structured blazer will always have a solid place in any stylish wardrobe. Throw it on over a dress or pair it with a crisp white tee and jeans for a relaxed yet polished look. This season, play with the trend by experimenting with color, texture, design details, and fit.

Sheer Anything & Everything

Sheer is having a moment. From a trend perspective, wearing anything sheer can be a little daunting if you’re not a fashion risk taker, but there are many wearable ways to “dip a toe” into the look. I like pairing a sheer tee over a bodysuit and then throwing on a blazer to pull the look together (see above). This season’s sheer look is soft, layered, and gives the option of a subtle peek-a-boo effect.

Modern Bohemian

The fall bohemian trend emphasizes a playful glamour and comes in many forms this season. Lace detailed tops (shown above), printed dresses, ankle boots, and jackets with fringe are all part of this trend. You can also play with printed maxi dresses, gold medallion necklaces, and high-collar blouses.

The Classic White Tee

The classic white tee is a must-have staple for every wardrobe and this season is no exception. Although it feels like a no-brainer to include in a list of “top 10 trends”, the plain white tee is essential for fall because of all the different ways you can wear it. This season, style it with cargo pants, layer it under a camisole for a nod to the Y2K era, or keep it classic by layering it under a chic leather jacket or quilted coat. This is not a precious trend, so have fun with it, and get your money’s worth out of this strong staple.

Mad For Plaid

There are many variations of plaid that fall into this trend, so chances are good that you’ll find one that resonates with you. From large-scale plaids on outerwear to subtle plaids that offer just a peek of the trend like the new Nike Blazer Mid that features a green plaid print on the heel, this season has it all.

I love plaid blazers of all shapes and sizes for fall, but for those of you who are not so “mad for plaid”, perhaps try the trend via accessories like scarves or handbags instead. You can also experiment with bold color stories and different plaid sizes to personalize the trend.

The Cargo Pant

The cargo pant is back and plays well into the baggy pant trend we’ve seen in recent months. A wide leg cargo pant and a fitted white t-shirt are the perfect way to pull together two trends for the season. This pant is practical because of the pockets but also a fun throwback to the cargo pant + high heels look of the early 00s. If you’re not quite ready to go full-on cargo pant, look for utility pants with flat-front pockets instead.

The Quilted Coat

File this under: cozy, super-wearable trend that’s great for the Pacific Northwest. The quilted coat is destined to become one of your favorite wardrobe staples this season. It’s comfortable, practical, and the perfect way to play with texture this fall. Many of the styles out on the market right now are reversible, so you get two looks for the price of one. This also means you have endless styling options depending on the occasion and your mood.

Leather

This season leather is everywhere from classic biker jackets to leggings, blazers, and even the shacket (a.k.a. the shirt jacket). Leather gives any outfit an instant edge, so have fun with it and experiment with different colors and silhouettes for a bold signature look.

Tip: A pleated maxi skirt paired with an easy leather jacket is a fun way to wear this trend (shown above).

Faux Fur/Feathers/Texture

Texture is the name of the game this fall and there are so many cozy ways to wear it. Take it slow with a faux fur handbag or go all in with a full feathered jacket or teddy bear fur coat. The texture trend (feathers, faux fur, velvet) is showing up on collars of long trench coats and on the cuffs of long-line leather coats. This trend is meant to be fun, playful, and a bit glamorous.

Look for styles that have the ability to be layered comfortably under a warm coat.
