FXRY Launches Second Mark Collection
Available exclusively online and at FXRY’s Mount Baker studio, the new one-of-a-kind collection puts hand-stitched whimsy on vintage and secondhand workwear.
FXRY, the fashion industry’s go-to service provider for modern clothing repairs and alterations, has launched Second Mark, a new clothing label that reworks original vintage and secondhand workwear into creative new pieces. A barn jacket gets cropped and adorned with a pair of hand-stitched red tulips on the chest. A crisp chambray work shirt gets a Norwegian-inspired tin of sardines stitched on the pocket. The embroidery is done by hand on a chainstitch machine that's nearly 100 years old, and since every piece starts out as a different garment, nothing can be made twice, and nothing gets restocked.
After spending more than 20 years in the apparel industry, most recently as Design Director for Brooks Running, Calley Dawson launched FXRY in 2024 with sustainability in mind. She’s been on a mission ever since to keep clothing in rotation and out of landfills. After more than 5,000 garment repairs, she developed a keen sense for spotting well-built garments, and now she’s buying them on purpose.
The first drop made its debut at FXRY’s studio anniversary party in May 2026 and featured 13 vintage L.L. Bean barn jackets, reworked by hand. The event was covered by Seattle Magazine and the jackets nearly sold-out before the party, so the studio made more to keep up with demand. Denim chore coats and cropped button-downs came after.
“Workwear is having a moment and almost all of it is very serious,” says Dawson. “I'd rather put a tulip on a barn jacket. These things were built to get beat up, and I don't see why they can't be fun at the same time.”
Dawson and Natalie Winkler source the garments together and develop the motifs as a team, and Winkler does the reworking and the stitching. Silhouettes get reshaped, details get added, and most pieces are finished in chainstitch on a hand-guided machine, one of very few still working commercially in Seattle. New motifs come with every drop, and the care label leans in too, reading: “wear more, wash less.”
The label is a natural next step for what FXRY has been doing since its launch. The studio started out making it easy for people to fix and alter what they already own, and Second Mark asks whether buying something reworked can take the place of buying something new. An artist collaboration is in the works for this fall.
