I recently had the chance to join the Michael Bruce Image Consulting team on their Wisdom from the Wardrobe podcast. After taking a brief hiatus due to COVID, the team is finally back together for Season 3 and has also announced that the podcast is now part of a weekly radio show in the city. “A few laughs, a bit of fun, and some light-hearted conversation about style are all in store for this week’s listeners,” says Pamela Forgrieve, Director of Operations for Michael Bruce Image Consulting.

In our episode, we chat about Seattle “style myths”, what brands did to pivot during the pandemic, and what changes are ahead for the fashion industry.

Here are some key takeaways from our conversation:

  • During the pandemic, a variety of brands based in Seattle started using their resources to make face masks and PPE.

  • Like many cities, Seattle experienced a wave of store closures as a result of the pandemic. In my Summer Retail Report from 2020, I reflect on those changes.

  • In terms of “newness” in the city, I mentioned the 10th Ave Collective Pop-Up on Capitol Hill and new brands like Akala and Sskein. Bruce also talked about the pop-ups at Pacific Place.

  • In the episode, we also talked about the importance of brand values and why things like the 15% Pledge matter.
